May 11, 7PM, Rainier Beach Meaningful Movies event about urban agriculture: https://meaningfulmovies.org/events/forgotten-triangleregenerating-community/
In Cleveland’s ‘Forgotten Triangle,’ REGENERATING COMMUNITY by Thriving Communities narrates a remarkable transformation and resilience from 2010 to today. The documentary highlights the metamorphosis of a once overlooked area, burdened by the remnants of illegal dumping, into a thriving hub of urban agriculture that radiates community pride. The story extends beyond the physical reclamation of land, providing an intimate look at the individuals who spearheaded this revival, breathing new life into their neighborhood and fostering a profound sense of belonging and dignity among its residents.
The journey is anchored by the Rid-All Green Partnership, founded by childhood friends Keymah Durden, Randy McShepard, and the late Damien Forshe, whose vision in 2009 set the stage for this extraordinary revival. REGENERATING COMMUNITY illuminates Rid-All’s approach, which intertwines sustainable farming with community building, highlighting how this venture has catalyzed job creation, enhanced access to healthy food, and nurtured strong community ties. Through the transformation of the land—from a neglected dumping ground to a vibrant urban farm—the film celebrates the legacy of Damien Forshe and the enduring impact of Rid-All’s work, showcasing the power of regenerative agriculture to not only rejuvenate the earth but also to unite and empower communities.

May 14, 6:30PM, Online event honoring the Nez Perce: https://meaningfulmovies.org/events/covenant-of-the-salmon-people-6/
In partnership with Episcopal Diocese of Olympia we invite you to watch COVENANT OF THE SALMON PEOPLE on your own time between Wednesday, May 8th and Tuesday, May 14th. Episcopal Diocese of Olympia will hosting a virtual panel discussion and community conversation on efforts to protect salmon on Tuesday evening, May 14th.
COVENANT OF THE SALMON PEOPLE is a portrait of the Nez Perce Tribe as they continue to carry out their ancient promise to protect the Chinook salmon. The film explores the intertwined fate of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce), salmon, and the landscape from which both evolved. The Nez Perce people are the oldest documented civilization in North America, with archaeological sites along Idaho’s Salmon River dating back 16,500 years.
Today the Tribe is facing the extirpation of their most prized salmon species despite decades of recovery efforts. The widespread construction of dams across their Traditional lands has continued to challenge salmon recovery. The only option remaining for the Tribe, is the breach of four dams on the lower Snake River–will the Federal Government take charge of the situation or sit idly while this iconic species vanishes from their home waters?
You must register to receive the link to view the film (May 8 – May 14) and Zoom link for the panel discussion.
A follow-up panel discussion and community conversation will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, May 14th, from 6:30-8:00 pm.
