Join South Seattle Neighbors And Friends

We welcome new leaders and volunteers who are concerned about our environmental and climate crises and who want to get involved. Whether you are interested in organizing a Meaningful Movies event; meeting with your legislators; supporting an educational event about the environmental impacts of war; or working to save our remaining South Seattle forests, we can help!

You can join one of SSCAN’s existing programs or we can help connect you with aligned environmental organizations working on a variety of national, state and local economic, environmental and social justice issues and policies. The most important thing is to do something!

We know that the news is scary but we also believe that the answer to apathy is hope; that the answer to fear is action; and that being in community brings hope and spurs action. We recognize how important it is that we support each other! Join us!

One of our favorite programs: Mt Baker Meaningful Movies!

We are deeply grateful to the Meaningful Movies Project for supporting our local Mt Baker Meaningful Movies venue. We show films about many social justice issues because we understand that these issues are linked.  Since 2015, we have screened films about climate change, mass incarceration, racism, consumerism, gay rights, women’s rights, toxic chemicals and other important topics. And at each of those movies, people came together to think deeply about the issues raised and ways to move forward. This is what building community is all about.

How Donations Are Used

SSCAN is an all-volunteer, grassroots organization. Between 2015 and October 2023, we relied completely on donated time, talent, and a small amount of financial support from our founders. However, things have become more expensive. Even though we do not have to pay for staff, we do have to pay for hosting our website, our newsletter platform,  screening rights for Meaningful Movies etc. Your donations will allow SSCAN to continue to fight for sustainable and equitable environmental policies in South Seattle and beyond.  Questions?
