XR Seattle recently held a march from KOMO to KIRO in downtown Seattle in order to bring attention to the lack of coverage about climate change. If we have any hope of coming together to try and solve the environmental crisis of global warming, people need to know that we are living in an unprecedented time of rapid climate change which will transform every aspect of our society. KOMO and KIRO need to do better. Contact KOMO (here) and KIRO (here) to ask them to do better.
We are glad that The Seattle Times, on the other hand, is trying to step up and focus on climate in a more significant way. They have staffed a new Climate Lab which will be focused on the effects of climate change in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Anne Miller from the SSCAN leadership team recently wrote a thank you email to The Seattle Times. We encourage you to do the same. Please also read this article from SSCAN and XR leader, Andrea O’Ferrall who is working hard to change the culture of silence in most of our mainstream media outlets.

Subject: Thank you for the ‘Climate Lab’
Hello,
I just want to say THANK YOU to the Seattle Times for initiating the new ‘Climate Lab’. As a mother, as a former elementary school teacher and librarian, and as someone who believes that all children deserve clean air, clean water, food that is safe to eat and wilderness left to explore, I’m grateful that the Seattle Times will be researching and writing about the effect that global warming is having on communities in the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Climate change is affecting every aspect of our society and, in my opinion, should be referenced as often as possible so that people can begin to make connections between what we eat, what we wear, what we plant, where we live, the transportation we use, our land use policy, our trees, our health and climate change. We are living in an emergency and we should be talking about it as such.
With grateful appreciation,
Anne Miller
