Who we are
SSCAN is a grassroots, all-volunteer organization. Our website address is: https://southseattleclimate.org/. If you sign up for our newsletter, we collect your name and email address. We send out a monthly newsletter and if there is an event that we have organized, we may send an additional reminder email. That’s it. We don’t like spam in our own inboxes and we don’t like spam in your inbox either – so we won’t be sending it!
We are not a 501c3 but we do have a nonprofit 501c3 fiscal sponsor, Democracy Works. If you would like to donate to SSCAN, we ask that you do it the old fashioned way – with a check sent by snail mail. That is in part because we don’t want to use an online form that automatically collects and stores your data. See our donate page for details about how to do so.
Your Data
We do not intentionally share your data with anyone. Ever. When you sign up for our newsletter, your data is stored using the Mailpoet app (which is our newsletter platform) on our website (which is built with WordPress). Mailpoet and WordPress collect the data you provide when you sign up for our newsletter, contact us, or make comments on our blogposts.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on out site, WordPress collects the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Who we share your data with
We do not intentionally share your data with anyone. Ever.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so WordPress can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
